What’s neXT?! hosted an amazing virtual coffee chat (well, the coffee was real, but the session was on Zoom) with more than 80 members of our community and Carl Honoré, the celebrated author, broadcaster and TED speaker.
Carl’s most recent book, Bolder, addresses the challenges and myths of aging and is a must read for all of us. However, in his presentation, Carl instead spoke about the key concepts from his previous bestseller, In Praise of Slow, and its relevance to Transitioners and how in our longer lives, we are well placed to reap the benefits of a life lived at a more measured pace. Some key takeaways: ‘Slow’ is not about being lethargic, but instead emphasizes mindfulness and thoughtfulness. Slow teaches us how to prioritize aspects of our life – some things will still happen quickly, but some provide no benefit when sped up. And he pointed out that Slow aids memory – in our frenetic lives, we don’t retain or accrue learning and wisdom when we rush through events.
Carl’s session was followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Phil Pizzo, Founding Director of the Distinguished Careers Institute at Stanford University, Moira Allan, co-founder of the Pass It On Network, and Raj Kothari, former Vice Chair and Managing Partner at PWC.
Thank you Carl, Phil, Raj, and Moira for making time to be with us as we shape our What’s neXT?! community.
